From Civil Rights to Environmental Justice
Both the Civil Rights Movement and, some would say, the modern Environmental Justice Movement were birthed in large part by Black people from the South. We can even throw in the abolitionist movements that eventually led to the 13th, 14th, and 15th amendments, which, about a century later, gave the US an actual pretense of democracy.
